Hey there, and welcome to my little corner of the internet!
Sometimes you capture a moment that feels exactly like home. This photo is that moment for me. If you’re a fellow “dog parent,” you probably know the drill—you’re trying to have a relaxed coffee or, in this case, just take a quick breath on the sofa, and the four-legged family members decide that right now is the only time acceptable for affection.
I love this photo. I think it perfectly encapsulates the chaotic, scruffy, and overwhelmingly loving life I share with these two.
Meet the Crew
On the left is Murphy. You see that expression? The noble stare into the middle distance? That’s pure curiosity. He heard a noise (probably a squirrel sneezed two blocks away) and he needs to know everything about it. Murphy is the sensitive soul, the protector, and also the reason I have to use a “calm voice” 90% of the day.
On the right, currently doing his best impersonation of a grey shaggy rug, is Alfie. Alfie has two settings: extreme playtime and absolute, immovable cuddles. Clearly, we are in deep cuddle mode here. He just laid his heavy head on my lap and sighed, and that was that.
The Sofa, the Scruff, and the Hoodie
The sofa we are on? It used to be my dream modern purchase. Now? It’s basically a high-end dog bed that sometimes has space for me.
This photo was taken on one of those slow Sunday mornings. It was chilly out, which called for my favorite over-sized, fuzzy white hoodie. It’s my comfort piece. Apparently, it also doubles as a giant fleece towel, as both dogs seem to love rubbing their faces into it. (Yes, I own a lint roller. A very large, commercial-grade one.)
Finding the Magic in the Clutter
We didn’t plan this shot. The art behind us isn’t perfectly straight. The lighting is just the soft morning sun. But I think that’s why I love it. It’s real life.
There is so much noise and stress in the world. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But then I get sandwiched between two scruffy monsters who love me more than anything else.
Alfie’s head heavy on my lap, Murphy’s solid presence, and my own messy “just rolled out of bed” hair… this is what pure content feels like.
Final Thoughts
This photo is a reminder to me to cherish these small moments. The chores will wait. The emails can wait. But the opportunity to be squished by your happy dogs? That’s priority number one.
